Plains and Plateau Tribes: WICHITA

	Wichita The Wichita Language is part of the Caddoan Language family. The Wichita had matrilocal residency. A household consisted of a woman, her husband, the unmarried children, married daughters, their husbands and children. They lived in lodges and teepees. There was no formal ceremony for marriage. The groom and his family gave gifts and presented a feast for the bride's family. The new couple went to live with the bride's family. A Wichita Man's duties were doing chores and hunting for the bride's family. During childbirth, the mother-to-be moved into a separate teepee away from the lodge. The husband was barred from his wife for four days unless she or the child became ill. Children were named prior to birth based on dreams.
