Southeast Tribes: NATCHEZ

	Natchez The Natchez spoke the Natchez Language isolate. The Natchez had matrilineal descent within classes of people. Women had complete sexual freedom before marriage. Adultery was common and normal and a couple rarely divorced. There was no punishment for adultery. Men would lend out their wives sexually to other men. Couples had to marry within their class or caste. There seems to be a division about whether the Sun Deity was male or female. At birth, children's heads would be flattened and the baby's body would be rubbed with bear oil.
