Choctaw The Choctaw Language came from the Muskogean Language family. The Choctaw had matrilineal clans and their society structure was pretty much a matriarchy. Property belonged to women only. Fathers had no control over their children whatsoever. The only male figure that the children were supposed to obey was their maternal uncle. At puberty, boys would get tattooed. If a man was interested in a girl, he would toss her a pebble. If she approved, she would smile. If she did not approve, she would scorn him. In the case of an approval, arrangements were made by the families of both sides who would exchange gifts and have a feast and play games. There were also written reports of open homosexuality which was accepted. |
