Plains and Plateau Tribes: Blackfoot

	Blackfoot The Blackfoot Language is part of the Algonquian Language family. When boys would make their first game kill they had a feast. When girls would quill their first beadwork they had a feast. Marriages were arranged by the fathers of both children. There was a lot of polygyny. Men usually had three or more wives. Brides were bought from the bride's father. During childbirth the woman was separated from the tribe and attended by a medicine woman or a midwife. The umbilical cord was cut with an arrowhead and the baby was washed and painted red. The Blackfoot believed in reincarnation, so if a baby had birthmarks, they believed they signified a battlewound in a previous life.
